McCarthy wants Mancienne on loan
Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Mick McCarthy has admitted that he would like to bring Michael Mancienne back to the club on loan.
Reports this summer have suggested that Wolves have been preparing a £4 million bid for the Chelsea player but the manager has since rubbished this and said the club don't have the finances for such a move.
However, McCarthy has not ruled out the possibility of the defender joining the club for a second loan spell. Mancienne played a total of 40 games for Wolves between 2008 and 2010 and could go back to the club as he's not likely to figure in Chelsea's immediate plans.
Mancienne signing for the club on loan again would have a number of beneficial effects for Wolves who face a fight to stay in the Premier League this season.
A number of benefits
Mancienne is clearly a very respected and highly valued player because Chelsea seem very reluctant to sell him and allow him to leave the club permanently. He's effectively spent the last four years on loan at Queens Park Rangers and Wolves when Chelsea could easily have sold him.
He's a very good defender who enjoys having a lot of pace across short amounts of turf. Wolves do not have a strong player who would keep him out of the team and he would start for Wolves if he went back to the club.
This would also help Mancienne's chances of getting an England place under Fabio Capello. Capello has said that the defender is one of England's stars for the future and he will not get a game for the national side unless he's playing in the Premier League regularly.
McCarthy said: "If they want to loan Michael out again, then that's a different matter altogether - I would be interested if they want to loan him out again but that's up to them."
Betting advice
Mancienne would add quality to the Wolves defence. He has already played a large number of games for the club, they know he plays and he knows how they play.
The quality he adds to the defence means that they will be much more difficult to break down next season. A more organised defence means fewer goals and Wolves should start getting draws where they have been narrowly losing games. Back the side to win when they are playing against the smaller clubs in the Premier League.
