Following the Tukkers poor showings after the winter break that saw them slip to fifth spot on the Eredivisie table, the former England boss decided to step down from the head coach position that ends his second stint at De Grolsch Veste in a dramatic
manner.
Reports from De Grolsch Veste confirm that Steve McClaren has decided to leave the role as FC Twente Enschede manager following his side’s disappointing performances in the Eredivisie in the second-half of the 2012/13 campaign.
The 51-year-old tactician, who led the Tukkers to its only Eredivisie triumph in the 2009/10 season during his earlier stint at De Grolsch Veste, returned to take the reins of the Enschede giants in January 2012, and managed to guide the club to a sixth
spot finish at the end of the 2011/12 campaign.
The English trainer did well to keep his side’s hopes of becoming the Dutch champions alive until halfway through the ongoing season by claiming the second spot. However, the Reds’ abysmal showings after the winter break, claiming only four points from six
games, have dropped down the club to fifth spot on the league table, six points behind the table-toppers, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/PSV-c40281 Eindhoven.
With the fans calling for the Englishman’s scalp, McClaren decided to walk away from the head coach position despite having an ongoing contract until the summer of 2014.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 boss issued a statement to the club that read:
“After the defeat to Heerenveen on Saturday the board of FC Twente and I tried to find a solution to the difficult period the team has been going through. We talked about the expectations of the club, how European qualification was key each season and finishing
in the top four”
“I needed assurances about my position both now and in the future which I know in the present situation is difficult. After much discussion and deliberation those assurances weren’t forthcoming and we have agreed it’s in the best interest of the club that
I leave.”
McClaren’s decision to resign from the managerial post at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Twente-c39233 following the club’s erratic showings has further damaged his reputation, and it seems unlikely that he would be seen at De Grolsch Veste yet again.
