The Tukkers chairman has made it clear that the former England boss will remain the coach until his contract expires at the end of the ongoing season, while admitting that he is pleased with the club’s performance in the Eredivisie thus far.
FC Twente Enschede chairman, Joop Munsterman, has played down suggestions that Steve McClaren’s position as the club head coach is under threat following poor showings in the recent weeks.
The Tukkers are currently occupying the third spot on the Eredivisie table, level on points with second placed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/PSV-c40281 Eindhoven.
However, the club’s abysmal performances in the recent weeks, winning only one of their last five league games, coupled with their last place finish in Group L of UEFA Europa League fuelled speculations in the Dutch media regarding McClaren’s future at De
Grolsch Veste.
Nonetheless, the Tukkers chairman has now made it clear that his side does not intend to dismiss the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 boss, and has insisted that the club wants the English trainer to remain at helm until the end of his contract that is due to expire at the
end of the ongoing 2012/13 campaign.
“Steve is our head coach, our manager in football and that does not change. We really cannot dismiss him, which would have no effect. You send someone away and bring in another, but that does not really help. McClaren's contract has half a year left on it
and we intend for him to serve that, as we have always done - except in the case of (Co) Adriaanse, when relations had broken down”, Munsterman was quoted as saying to De Telegraaf.
Co Adriaanse, who took the reins of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Twente-c39233 in the summer of 2011, was dismissed from his position by the club management earlier this year in January following disputes over his approach.
The club chief has admitted that he has no such issues with the former Wolfsburg boss, while adding that they are pretty pleased with the results.
“There really is no doubt about McClaren. I am very pleased with the coach because we are still level with the team in second”, Munsterman concluded.
