The winger ended the season at Sunderland on a high and claims that he will be looking to do the same this time around.
Ireland International http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/James-McClean-c17703 had a brilliant maiden campaign at the Stadium of Light, starring in the Black Cat’s amazing run of games under new manager Martin O’Neill.
The tactician took charge in December and was responsible for the team’s sensational form, as he turned them from relegation battlers into a decent mid-table side.
McClean played a huge role in the getting the club out of the Premier League drop zone, as he became one of the season’s bargains, after choosing to sign for Sunderland following an impressive stay in the League of Ireland.
His abilities on the wing coupled with his attacking prowess has earned him plaudits from all over, but the player remains as humble as ever and is hoping that he can replicate his feats from the 2011/12 campaign and carry them onto the upcoming season.
After netting six times last term, McClean has set a high standard for himself and he will need to maintain that if he wishes to continue plying his trade in the Premiership.
“I don’t believe in second-season syndrome. You just have to go out and work hard to improve your game if you want to progress and that is what I am looking to do each time we play. I am looking forward to the new season because I believe I will only become
better the more experienced I am.”
“Teams might know a bit more about me next season but if I have improved then hopefully I will be harder to deal with. That is my game. It has always been my game to get the ball and attack defenders and I do not plan on changing that anytime soon."
Sunderland were once a force to be reckoned with under Steve Bruce, but the former defender was unable to maintain the success he brought and was ultimately given the boot last year.
Now that O’Neill has arrived, lofty ambitions surround the Lads and only time will tell whether they live up to them or not.
