McClenaghan replaces injured Tim Southee in New Zealand Test squad – Cricket News Update
New Zealand have replaced seamer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mitchell-McClenaghan-c1975 in the Test squad after the former was ruled out from the upcoming clashes against South Africa.
Southee injured his thumb during a recent domestic game, and needs six weeks to recover. The Kiwi did not name an immediate replacement but now have added McClenaghan, who impressed during the ongoing T20 series, his first in Kiwi colours.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Auckland-c766 seamer took a wicket in the first game, and managed one more in the second, which his side went onto win and level the three-match series 1-1. He is now expected to earn a Test cap when his team takes on the Proteas in the two-match Test series,
which begins on January 2.
The current Kiwi contingent has faced plenty of setbacks in terms of their bowling resources. Mark Gillespie was first called up to the T20 squad after a gap of three years as a replacement for youngster Adam Milne, but injured himself while performing for
his domestic outfit.
He was expected to be fit for the Test series, but with his recovery has taking longer than expected, the Black Caps added http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Bates-c1947 to the T20 squad, and further retained McClenaghan’s services for the longer version.
The left-arm seamer has played in 26 first-class games so far, where he has taken 76 wickets at 39.03, including a best of 8 for 23. In the current Plunket Shield, he has claimed 14 scalps from four matches at 34.85.
Mike Hesson, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 coach, said that the pacer’s elevation was a reward for some promising outings in the domestic circuit.
"With Tim Southee's injury and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mike-J-Hesson-c76286 said. "Mitchell has been an impressive performer
over the past couple of domestic seasons and deserves this opportunity following a promising start to International Cricket during the T20 series in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757.
"Mitchell is a talented and exciting young fast bowler who has the ability to unsettle batsmen with his pace and bounce. We are confident if the opportunity arises during the tour he will perform well during the Test series."
