McCoy included in Sports Personality of the Year Award poll
Tony McCoy has never let the fans of racing down. This time he made his admirers proud of him by making it to the nominee list of the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award. It is known to be one of the most exalted awards of the sports arena.
The jump jockey has proved himself as a talented champion 15 times in his career and thus finds his name in the list of ten sports personalities that were announced on BBC1’s “The One Show” for the prize.
Ever since his victory in the John Smith’s Grand National on Don’t Push It back in April, he has been one of the strong contenders of the award. McCoy has been quoted as 8-11 by Coral and Victor Chandler.
What makes McCoy’s nomination special for this award is the fact that no racing personality so far has been shortlisted for this honour. He was not made a part of this list last year, but his fans and connections launched a campaign to flaunt him so that
his chances of winning this award are increased significantly.
The shortlist is the work of 30 sport analysts and critics, meanwhile the final winner will be decided by the public. The voting will start on the night of the 19th December 2010.
McCoy will be facing competition from Graeme McDowell, who won the US Open and is also one of the two Ryder Cup champions. Besides the two of them, Lee Westwood has also made it to the list after being named the World’s no. 1 golfer.
Other high profile athletes who have been nominated for the Personality of the Year Award include the names of Jessica Ennis, the European heptathlon gold medal winner along with Phil Taylor who is fancied multiple darts champion. Amy Williams the champion
at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver has also been shortlisted for the award. From football, no player made it to the top 10 list, despite of 2010 being the World Cup year. On the other hand, the only cricket player who has been shortlisted is the spin bowler
from England Graeme Swann.
McCoy has high chances of winning the prize through public voting because his campaign is doing a real good job. He is also a well deserving candidate for the Sports Personality of the Year Award since he was the only one of the top ten sports persons to
have gotten the votes from all the 30 sports editors.
