The Royals recorded a goalless draw against the Swans on Boxing Day, and the former Slough Town boss was satisfied with his troops’ performance on the pitch.
Brian McDermott has expressed his contentment over Reading’s goalless stalemate against Swansea City. The two sides met at Madejski Stadium on Wednesday, December 26.
The Royals were heading into the game on the back of seven successive defeats, and the 51-year-old tactician insisted that his side put in a solid performance throughout the 90 minutes to bag a point.
“We've had a run of seven games when we haven't got any results and I didn't want it to get to eight because the boys didn't deserve that. Five of those seven were away and the two home games Man Utd and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429. But today, we looked solid against a good Swansea side. We have to find a way of getting results and we've got one today”, McDermott was quoted as saying to journalists in the post-match press conference.
The Swans, who were heading into the game on the back of a hard fought 1-1 draw against Manchester United, commenced proceedings brightly. Michu had an early opportunity to gift his side a lead, but he fired wide of the target.
Michu had another golden chance to put his side in-front, but the Spaniard somehow blasted his effort over the crossbar from close range.
The visiting side continued to remain the dominant force on the pitch after the half-time break as well. A Wayne Routledge cross was perfectly headed by Dyer in the 64th minute, but the Royals goalkeeper, Federici, made a stunning save to deny the attacker from hitting the back of the net.
The hosts’ best opportunity came six minutes before the full time whistle, but Adam le Fondre’s fierce shot was blocked by Flores on the line.
McDermott admitted that Swansea played good football throughout the night, but also stressed that a draw was a fair result for both sides.
“They had a lot of the ball first half but didn't really hurt us. Michu put one over the bar from our mistake but other than that it was bits and bobs, I think they'll be delighted with a point”, McDermott concluded.
Reading remains unmoved at the 19th spot on the Premier League table.
