The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 player has expressed confidence regarding his side’s chances of avoiding relegation to Npower Championship come the end of the season, while insisting that they will try their 100 percent to claim consistent results in the remaining
games of the campaign.
Reading head coach, Brian McDermott, is of the view that his side will manage to prolong their stay in the English Premier League despite currently sitting 19th on the table.
The Royals earned promotion to the English top flight after winning Npower Championship in the 2011/12 season. However, they have thus far failed to compete at the highest level, and it seems likely that they would be competing yet again in the English second
tier after the end of the ongoing campaign.
In spite of claiming only a single win from their 19 league games thus far, the 51-year-old tactician has expressed confidence in his troops’ abilities, and has insisted that they will manage to claim good results in the remaining games of the season.
“We have got to do whatever we have to get results. I've learned a lot about this league in 19 games. In the Championship we tried to win every single game because we wanted to entertain, but our fans want to see points and results”, McDermott was quoted
as saying to the club’s official website.
Only one club has avoided relegation that sat at the bottom of the league table on Christmas Day in the Premier League era. However, the former Slough Town boss has insisted that his side can write another chapter in the Premier League’s history by avoiding
the drop come the end of the ongoing 2012/13 campaign.
“At the moment it is tough but the fans have stuck with the players and I am grateful they have stuck with me. People talk to me about history and positions in the table, points and what have you, but it's irrelevant. With 19 games to go this is definitely
do-able for us. We enjoy and relish the challenge. We can do this”, McDermott concluded.
The Royals will lock horns against West Ham United at home in the 20th round of English top flight at Madejski Stadium on December 29.
