The Royals suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat against Aston Villa on Tuesday, when Christian Benteke netted a goal in the 80th minute, and the 51-year-old tactician has insisted that his side must resolve this issue.
Brian McDermott has expressed determination to fix Reading’s habit of conceding goals in the final moments of the game after watching his side suffer a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Aston Villa at Villa Park on Tuesday, November 27.
The Royals dominated proceedings on the pitch, and enjoyed majority of the ball possession throughout the game. The visiting side had a couple of decent opportunities, but their front-line let them down by failing to hit the back of the net.
Meanwhile, the Villans staged a much better and composed show after the half-time break, especially in the final 15 minutes of the game, and went on to bag all three points at the end with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Christian-Benteke-c9056 netting the winner in the 80th minute.
And the former Cardiff City midfielder has assured that he will try his utmost to solve his side’s habit of conceding late goals at the earliest.
“Over the last three years we’ve had little bits and bobs when we have conceded late goals and we’ve solved that problem. Last season we couldn’t score a goal in the first half and we solved that problem and went on to win the Championship, so it’s all about
trying to solve the issue and move on”, McDermott was quoted as saying to the English media.
The English trainer, who took the reins of the Royals in the 2009/10 season, went on to admit that his side failed to make the most of their limited goalscoring opportunities, which cost them the game at the end.
“In the first half in particular we had a couple of really good chances and I thought we were going to get the first goal which was crucial. But we got done on a set-play, which was disappointing. I didn’t think we were going to lose the game at any point”,
McDermott concluded.
The Royals, who are currently sitting 19th in the English Premier League standings, four points adrift from the safety zone, will lock horns against Manchester United in their next league game on Saturday, December 1.
