After going 0-2 down with almost 24 minutes remaining on the clock, the hosts seemed to be en route to suffer another defeat at home. However, Adam le Fondre, who came from the bench to replace Jobi McAnuff in the 67th minute, netted twice in
the closing stages of the game to help his side claim a point at the end of 90 minutes.
And the English trainer was extremely delighted with the sensational performance put in by the 26-year-old, and admitted that his side had a mountain to climb after going two goals down, but they managed to claim a valuable point.
“When you've got Le Fondre anything can happen. He is a bit special. Those two finishes were from the top drawer. They are the champions of Europe. These are world-class players. If you're 2-0 down to them with 10 minutes to go you feel you've got real problems”,
McDermott said while talking to reporters in the post-match press conference.
The 51-year-old tactician went on to heap praise on his troops, and admitted that his side’s show in the final 15 minutes of the game made him content.
“Once you get a goal things can change and that's what happened tonight. I was so proud of our players tonight. We have players with massive hearts. They give us everything. We're doing everything we can be to be in this league next season”, McDermott concluded.
Reading have now climbed up in the Premier league standings to occupy the 17th spot.
