The 51-year-old tactician has heaped praise on his troops’ performances in the recent weeks, and has admitted that his side deserved to claim all three points against Sam Allardyce’s men.
Reading manager, Brian McDermott, was pleased to see his side claim a deserving 1-0 victory over West Ham United at Madejski Stadium on Saturday, December 29.
The Royals commenced proceedings sloppily, but netted the opener against the run of play following a defensive error from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/James-Collins-c17687. The defender tried to play a back pass to his goalkeeper, but Pogel Pogrebnyak intercepted the ball, and coolly slotted
home to gift the home side a lead in the fifth minute.
The Hammers mounted immense pressure on the Royals’ back-line, and created a number of goalscoring opportunities. However, they failed to net the equaliser until the full time whistle, and the hosts managed to claim all three points at the end.
McDermott was extremely delighted with the result, and insisted that they must build on to their recent performances to climb up in the Premier League standings.
“We tried to play a style of football here which entertains our fans. But 4-3s, 3-3s, 2-2s, 7-5s; if the results are going against you that is not what the fans want to see and they start shouting at me. So today they got a result, our fans got a result
and that is what they want to see and we have something to build on”, the former Slough Town boss said while talking to reporters in the post-match press conference.
The Royals were struggling to compete in the highest echelons of English football since the start of the ongoing 2012/13 season after winning the Npower Championship last term. However, they have managed to pick up their game in the recent weeks, claiming
four points from their last three league games.
And the English trainer has revealed that his side needed to change their attitude to claim consistent results, and they have done that brilliantly.
“A tactical switch, a mindset switch, we have to do what we have to do to pick up results and I have been fortunate in the last three years that I have got results”, McDermott concluded.
Reading are currently sitting 19th on the league table, five points adrift of the safety zone.
