McDonald’s to open biggest outlet at the Olympic Park – London Olympics 2012
McDonald’s has recently announced that it will be opening up its biggest outlet yet at the Olympic Park for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The restaurant is going to be located in Stratford, East London where it is going to take up an area of 3000 square metres and be two stories tall. The outlet is aiming to support a staggering number of 1500 seats. This will not be the only outlet that McDonalds
is making use of to make its presence felt at the Olympic Park, rather, there will be three other McDonald’s restaurants.
McDonald’s has been one of the official sponsors of the Olympics since 1976. This time around, the fast food chain has exclusive rights to be the only branded restaurant present at all Olympic venues next year.
Jill McDonald, who is the chief executive of McDonalds in England, made the following comments on being associated with the London 2012 Olympics: "To be involved in the greatest sporting event on earth is hugely exciting … We want everyone who visits our
Olympics park restaurants to have the best possible customer experience, and are confident that the look and feel of these cutting-edge designs will provide that environment."
Despite the fact that the executives at McDonald’s have assured the public that they will be carrying out their marketing by highlighting “balanced eating and fun play”, there is some negative sentiment in the public about the presence of McDonald’s at the
Olympics. This negativity has arisen from the notion that the message being sent to kids and the young people is wrong as they would be associating high calorie food with a healthy life style when they see the McDonalds as such a big part of the Olympic Games.
The fast food chain plans to capitalise on the 29 days of Olympics to sell its burgers and fries. The outlet is targeting selling is 1.75 million meals.
However, McDonald’s will not be the only place from where spectators can get food. The Olympic organisers have also allowed unbranded outlets to be present at the venues.
