McDowell bids ‘au revoir’ to his favourite driver
With the beginning of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Open, where the starting of the event has been quite positive for many, there are others who have been rattled by news they were not expecting, especially at this point of time.
Prominent golfer Graeme McDowell has announced that his club has finally arrived to its age of retirement.
The club, which is said to be his personal favourite, began to show signs and symptoms of a permanent holiday after its driver began to separate.
Unfortunately, the event has occurred just in the nick of time, when an event like Abu Dhabi Open has gone underway.
Primarily because of the attachment the golfer had developed with this integral apparatus of golf, he began to have intuitions when his club began to face complications.
It was just before he went into the National Golf Course when his 18-month-old betrayed his owner. However, it would be unjust to term it as complete betrayal.
According to McDowell, "The glue inside the driver had come loose," he said, after he was able to tee to the level of par 72.
He further added that the club began to dysfunction right at the time when he was about to make it for the 17th, the toughest shot of the day.
As soon as he swung his club, the ball could travel even 210 yards. Nothing could have been more disappointing for McDowell than to start his day at Abu Dhabi this way.
Furthermore, it was with the help of this club that McDowell was able to claim victory in the events of 2010.
Even experts have termed this as a shock for McDowell that can seriously affect his performance throughout the remaining tournament.
He shared, “It’s disappointing because I played really well today and I also have many fond memories of that particular driver as I won twice with it in 2010. If I had to single out the best drive I had with the driver it was my tee shot at 16 on the last
day of the Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor so it has a lot of sentimental value".
It will be interesting to see how McDowell will be able to revive his performance graph in the event after this incident.
