McDowell promises to bounce back
Graeme McDowell has had ups and downs this season. He has only managed to do well in a handful of tournaments.
If we take a look at his stats this season, we do not see a very commanding performance from him. He has played 10 events and managed the cut in only eight of them.
His best finish was at the Arnold Palmer, where he finished second.
If we take a look at the last five tournaments he played, we see a very see-saw performance by the Irish.
He finished T12 at the masters, a decent result. Then, in the next three tournaments, he could only manage a T57 and two cuts.
Nevertheless, he showed his real temperament and character at the US Open, where he was leading till the last day.
When the last round started, he was standing tie with Jim Furyk. In the first nine holes, he dropped four shots and surrendered the lead.
In the last nine holes, he gathered momentum and scored birdies on the 11th and 12the hole. However, he could not keep up the momentum and countered the two birdies by bogeying the next two holes
Overall, he finished T2 with a score of 2-over par – not a bad result at all, but when you are in the lead, going in the last round, you should be able to make it through.
After the end of the tournament, McDowell was going through some mixed emotions, he was disappointed.
This is what he had to say, “There's a mixture of emotions inside me right now, obviously disappointment, deflation, pride but mostly just frustration, because I hit three fairways today”.
He was satisfied with the way he fought back after first nine holes, the way he birdied at the 11, 12 and 17 holes.
When asked about the put at the last hole McDowell said, “that putt, it was weird, because I hit that putt in practice and it bumped left and it moved right of the hole and I just didn't do that today”.
At the end, McDowell was very optimistic about the season, he said that he will come back strongly and get back into rhythm.
