McGladery Classic, John Rollins falls behind, Heath Slocum wins
John Rollins played an amazing bogey free play at the McGladrey Classic 2010 at round one and displayed his impressive form after scoring 3 birdies at the first eight holes. Among the betting odds Matt Kuchar, Zach Johnson, Luca Glover and Charlie Wi are considered the top favourites.
The tournament was being held at the St. Simons Island in Georgia and was scheduled from the 7th of October till the 10th.
Rollins carded successive pars just before he had five more holes to cross and stood with a collection of three under 63. The thirty-five year old crossed hole number 14 and 17 and carded 4 successive birdies. Rollins ended his game at the 18th hole with a par and thus finished his game bogey-free.
The thirty-five year old stood with a 7 under in the fall event with his fellow countrymen in one clear. Troy Merritt and David Toms are the nationals where Michael Letzig, Joe Durant and Rich Barcelo stood short of the lead further down the leader board.
Round one witnessed Justin Leonard standing at the seventh place of the tournament. The previous winner of the Open had a four way share and carded a score of 66. Zach Johnson and Matt Kuchar also gave a good comeback after the Ryder Cup defeat from the Europeans.
Kuchar finished his round after scoring a total of 67 at the event whereas Johnson ended his round seven shots off the pace with leveling par. Kuchar hence played a three under.
Among the top favourites, Kuchar is the desired winner with being the top ranked golfer in the field. He played the FedEx Cup with an impressive play but lost the 2010 event from the hands of Jim Furyk. Kuchar has managed to attain 13 cuts and had finished 7 times in the top ten in the 13 events he played. Apart from the solid record he holds, Kuchar is much respected overall due to his consistent game.
Zach Johnson is the local resident and is considered as one of the best choices to win because of his familiarity with the golf course.
Charlie Wi is also one of the top favourites because of his strong finish in the 2010 season. From the total of nine events he has played, he finished in the top 20 in 5 events.
Lucas Glover is also standing at rank number thirty-eight in the World ranking. Betting odds put him as a favourite because of his ability to put up a combination this event for the win. He has had an ample time of one month and has played such types of courses countless times.
Update: Round 2
Rollins at round two of the McGladrey Classic has scored a 71 and is now standing at minus 6. Kevin Sutherland is also standing at minus 6 with a scoring a 70 in the first round and then improving his game to 64.
The top of the leader board has David Toms, who stands tall with a minus 10 in total. The players carded a 64 in his first round and then a 66 in the second round. The second place is held by Joe Durant, who scored a 65 and 66 in the Classic’s first two rounds and is thus standing with a minus 9.
Heath Slocum has T3 in hands with a minus 8. He carded 66 in both rounds of the event and has Rich Barcelo trailing behind him.
