McGladrey Classic to boost local economy in Sea Island, Georgia

McGladrey Classic is an official PGA Tour golf tournament held on the Seaside golf course at Sea Island, Georgia. The tournament tees off from the 4th of October and will end on the 10th of  October which will surely make the St. Simons
Island as the ‘hot’ spot of golf.
It’s not necessary that people who are passionate about golf only know about eagles, pars and birdies. After they have their dose of golf at the Sea Island Seaside course, they will surely require bed and food at least. The businesses in the area are making
the most of this opportunity to make some profit. The tournament will open on Wednesday with a pro-am event which will then go on till Sunday with a normal PGA Tour schedule.
Michael Johnson, who is the vice president of resort operations at the golf resort on the island, said that whenever there is a PGA event, it is a great thing. He said that even though McGladrey Classic isn’t as popular as tournaments like The Player’s Championship,
it’s still significant and makes a big impact in the local economy for the week. Centred on dollar amounts made at similar stops for the professional golfing circuit, this Tour hopes that the McGladrey Classic will bring in about $10 million to $15 million
for the economy. The McGladrey Classic is hosted by professional golfer Davis Love III who also has a Davis Love Foundation and sufficiently contributes to charity in the community.
This tournament has a $4 million purse and will surely draw players like Jonathan Byrd, Zach Johnson and past British Open Champions Justin Leonard and David Duval in it. The officials are anticipating a strong field and pleasant weather forecast for the
whole week. This is good news as weather greatly affects tourist spirit and enjoyment. There is no clear estimate on how many people are likely to show up but 7500 tickets have been printed for each of the four rounds of play.
"Ticket sales have been steady, and that's where a lot of the charitable donations will come from," John McKenzie, director of sales and marketing for the foundation, said. "A lot of events only sell weekly tickets, but we are set up to sale daily tickets.
So people can buy them for the days they can come."
The restaurants and hotels on the St. Simons Island can surely coincide with the attention the tournament is getting. Most of the rooms of the hotels around the island are booked and reservations in restaurants are on the flow. With so much happening on
the Island, the McGladrey Classic is surely going to bring good news for the locals in Sea Island, Georgia.
