McIlroy hits the St. Jude Classic this week, a pre-U.S Open game might help the troubled golfer!
Rory McIlroy has decided to participate in the St. Jude Classic in Memphis to get a stronger grip on his play before the U.S Open.
McIlroy usually never plays any tournament before a major championship, although he is making an exception this time by considering the St. Jude Classic as a pre-U.S Open practice session.
Lack of practice has been a key issue regarding his poor form. He has already missed three cuts in his last three games, including the Memorial tournament, which was dominated by Tiger Woods.
The former world number one is defending his U.S Open title next week. He looks promising and has been positive about his future games.
Last week, McIlroy took lessons from the legendary Jack Nicklaus regarding his poor form. The only aspect that came to the table was his unprepared participation in tournaments. “The Golden Bear” emphasised the former world number one to focus on pre-tournament
preparation.
“I know that there were times when I wasn't prepared and I got exactly what I deserved – nothing” said Nicklaus.
Nicklaus identified the lack of practice that has been a routine for McIlroy, as the main aspect of his bad results recently. McIlroy took the advice on a positive note and agreed to the factors brought up by the golf legend.
This week, we see McIlroy playing in Memphis, which confirms his seriousness regarding Nicklaus’s advice.
This can help the 23-year-old tremendously in the U.S Open as he will be prepared for his title defence with plenty of preparation and practice.
McIlroy has decided that pre-major championship games add to the craft. He is determined to follow the practice of playing games before every major tournament to perform in an outstanding manner.
“If this week I play well and go into the U. S. Open feeling really good about my game and I play well there, it's something that I might do in the future,” said the 23-year-old McIlroy.
McIlroy is pretty serious in successfully defending his U.S Open title next week. An expert approach by Nicklaus has added to his groove and he appears prepared for the title defence. Only time will speak of McIlroy and his form as the U.S Open starts next
week.
