McLaren's Jenson Button wishes to continue with the team until his career ends: Formula 1 Update
McLaren’s driver Jenson Button has claimed that he is pleased to be associated with his current team and would like to continue racing until the end of his career. The Brit moved to McLaren in 2010 after finalising a three-year contract with the team.
Button stated, “When I finish racing here, I won't be racing in Formula 1 anymore. I'm very happy here. I want to enjoy my racing and I'm really enjoying my time here. I can't see any reason to be anywhere else. I'm driving for one of the best teams in the
world.”
The 31-year-old further stated that any driver would love to be a part of McLaren and he had worked hard to be in the team. However, he was uncertain about the exact number of years he intends to stay with the team.
McLaren’s team principal, Martin Whitmarsh, was pleased with the intentions of Button and stated, “If Jenson says he is totally committed and wants to do x more years, then I suspect that we could quickly come to an agreement. He's a tremendous asset to
the team and when we get around to that, I hope that it will be a quick and easy conversation.”
Earlier, Whitmarsh had desired to keep both drivers Button and Lewis Hamilton until the end of their careers with the Vodafone sponsored team. The team was pleased with the understanding of both its drivers, as they had worked with unity since becoming team-mates
in the previous season.
However, Hamilton made it clear that his relation with the team was subject to the competitiveness of the car. The Brit was not pleased with the performance of his car in the opening couple of races in the 2011 season, as the team had to play catch-up to
reigning champions Red Bull.
McLaren bounced back in the Chinese Grand Prix though, as Hamilton won his first race of the ongoing season. On the other hand, his team-mate had a mixed race at Shanghai. He led the race for a handful of laps, but was unable to finish the race strongly.
Button lost speed and grip towards the end, losing an opportunity to finish on the podium.
