McLaren's Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button concerned over the new MP4-24 car – Formula 1 Update
McLaren's Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button have shown some concerns over the new MP4-24 car. The drivers feel that the car lacks development and there is no clear way to tell where it stands among the other Formula 1 title contender cars of Ferrari, and
Red Bull.
Hamilton criticized the delayed launch of their new car and said that it cost them precious time in Valencia test. He said, “We left it [unveiling the car] a bit later... and perhaps it's not played right into our hands.” Jenson Button said, “We've not done
as much running as we would have liked, which has hurt our set-up.”
McLaren delayed the launch of their new car, as critics would say that the team want to see the development of other cars, as the debut of the new car did not go as the McLaren team would have liked. Although Hamilton finished the Barcelona test with 107
laps, but was 1.37 seconds slower than the pace-sitter, Ferrari’s Felipe Massa.
The team are not going down and out, as they are still working on the exhaust positioning system of their MP4-24 to close their gap from the two time Champion Fernando Alonso’s F150th Italia and the youngest Formula 1 champion Sebastian Vettel’s RB7. Button
did not throw the hope of a championship away, as he said that the delay caused by Bahrain’s political situation will give them more time for development of the car.
Button said, “The car has a lot less down force and the tyres [Pirelli] are working very differently to the previous tyre [Bridgestone].” Hamilton also compared the down force of the car as the 2009 McLaren car.
The other news around McLaren is that Hamilton is going to announce his management team, as last year he parted ways with his father, who is now Paul Di Resta’s manager. He will announce next week that who, among IMG and Simon Fuller, is going to be in his
management. IMG has Tiger Woods and Roger Federer as clients and Simon Fuller has clients like David and Victoria Beckham.
The Barcelona test will start from the 8th of March but McLaren is one of the three teams who will appear in the test from 9th to 12th of March, as the other two teams being Ferrari and Mercedes will also be testing.
