McLaren's Lewis Hamilton vs. Ferrari's Fernando Alonso: The Formula 1 rivalry gets more fuel
Although, the rivalry between the former two World Champions, Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso, is already famous in the Formula 1 world, however, now there is a new twist in the story.
The newly published book of Tom Bowers, called “No Angel: The Secret Life of Bernie Ecclestone", uncovers many aspects of the sport, its supremo, Bernie Ecclestone along with the Ferrari driver, Alonso.
Among all the other secrets revealed in the book, the Alonso-Hamilton contention is the most striking one. The two super-fast racers of formula 1 raced together under the McLaren umbrella, in 2007. Being two of the strongest contenders on the grid with one
of the fastest cars of the season, the Spaniard and Briton had a year long neck-to-neck competition. Despite the fact that it was Hamilton’s debut season with the sport and Alonso was already a two-time World Champion, the match seemed equal all through the
season.
This book has now revealed the full extent of the hatred of Alonso held against Hamilton. It reveals the wicked ways Alonso followed to beat the rookie. The book stated that the Spaniard tried to convince the McLaren team boss, Ron Dennis, to ‘sabotage Hamilton's
car to ensure it ran out of fuel’.
It further confirmed that Alonso tried really hard to 'blackmail' Dennis into following team orders, making him the team’s No.1 driver. However, Hamilton performed so brilliantly in his debut season that the Dennis was never really convinced.
Although, the team boss’ decision cost the team their Championship as it finally went to the Renault driver, Kimi Raikkonen, leaving both the McLaren men empty handed, yet, no team orders were observed all through the year.
The book further discloses that Alonso gave his boss an ultimatum ahead of the 2007 Hungarian Grand Prix. It is reported that Dennis was threatened by the double-championship winner that his over incriminating emails will be forwarded to Fédération Internationale
de l'Automobile (FIA) if the demands were not fulfilled.
After the publication of this book, the already intense rivalry is expected to be flamed even further between the two best drivers of the series.
