McLaren's duo unsatisfied with pit-stop strategy: Formula 1 Update
McLaren's drivers, Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton were unhappy with their pit-stop strategy, which they had in Turkish race. The team drivers, Button took three stops and Hamilton moved on the grid with a four stop strategy. Both the drivers could not
make their good progress, but they were seemed busy, fighting for their podium place, until the end of the race.
After the race, the 31-year-old driver felt that McLaren should have changed its pit stop strategy during the race, once it became clear to drivers that four sets of soft tyres are not going to be enough for the upbeat results of the race.
He said, "Most people were probably on my strategy initially, but because most of them damaged their tyres in the first stint they changed their strategy, we didn't but we didn't leave our stop until late enough. We should have stayed out longer because
the last stint was impossible having so many laps on the hard tyre.”
He further added that, he really worked hard over the race, but due to his poor strategy, he was failed to deliver his best performance on the grid.
On the other hand, his team-mate, Hamilton, who was the winner of China race, dropped down his top position into fourth place, as his car’s right rear wheel nut was stuck for some seconds, in the last laps of the race.
When Hamilton came in for his third of the four stops, he seemed to be in a position to compete for his podium-place finish in Turkish race.
The 2008 world champion added, "It was just one of those races. Pit-stops are somewhere we can always improve but I lost a lot of ground when I tried to go down the outside of (Mark) Webber at the start of the race. I had a good start and I should have been
up to third and battling for second, but it wasn't to be."
After a positive race in China, the team took part in Turkish race weekend. McLaren’s start in recent grand prix was not so good, as their car did not support the drivers in both the Friday practice session and qualifying round.
Both drivers, Hamilton and Button started their race with hopes of winning the podium position for the team. However, due to some issues they could not show their best performance to the viewers and completed fourth and sixth position, respectively.
Other than Hamilton, Mercedes' driver, Nico Rosberg, also used the four-stop strategy over the race, however he finished in fifth place ahead of Button.
Before the start of Istanbul race, the team has announced that they will bring more upgrades in the Spanish Grand Prix, which is to be held in the last week of May this year.
