McLaren Jenson Button expecting a response from his team after Turkish Grand Prix
The 2009 Formula 1 world champion, Jenson Button, has recently stated that he is expecting a response from McLaren after their disappointing performance at the Turkish Grand Prix.
The British driver is confident that his team is aware of the current situation and that they are going to improve their car before the Spanish Grand Prix, which is expected to take place on the 22nd of May.
“Besides, we didn't really have the pace in the car to challenge for victory on Sunday. When you have the car beneath you that has good pace, it does make your strategy easier: when you're forced to push, you sometimes have to make a marginal call, or try
to make a less-than-perfect strategy work”, said the 2009 Formula 1 world champion.
McLaren has been the only team that has been able to compete alongside Red Bull Racing Team in terms of pace as Lewis Hamilton is the only driver to secure a victory besides Sebastian Vettel this year.
Other than that, the two McLaren drivers have been consistently performing at the qualifying sessions as well, while Ferrari and Mercedes GP are struggling to score some good results during the qualifying sessions this season.
At the Turkish Grand Prix, Jenson qualified in a disappointing 6th place, while his teammate Lewis Hamilton qualified in 4th place. Red Bull Racing Team dominated throughout the weekend once again, as a result of which, Button stated
that it was quite frustrating for the team as their three pit strategy did not work for them as they planned.
“It's disappointing because, from the cockpit, I didn't really do anything wrong. I drove a clean, strong race and looked after the tyres, but I suffered a bit as a result of that”, said Button.
He believes that according to results of the first three races, it is quite clear that all of the teams are going through a tough time in understanding the physics of the new tyres but added that all of the teams are learning even more about their respective
cars as each week passes by.
