McLaren-Mercedes driver Jenson Button not happy after wet Friday at Silverstone – Formula 1 news
McLaren-Mercedes driver Jenson Button has said that he is quite frustrated after two wet free practice sessions of the British Grand Prix.
The team could not achieve its goal for weekend and figuring out the pace difference between his team and Red Bull Racing became pretty much impossible as well due to the heavy downpour.
“It was a bit of a frustrating session. It dried out after P1 and we thought it would be nice and dry for P2 and we'd get some good comparisons and what have you but no not really. We did a bit of running in the wet - it's surprisingly slippery round here
in the wet - on the intermediate tyre, I didn't run on the extreme wet,” Button told the media.
At first, the former champion stated that he is hoping for a wet race at Silverstone since he succeeded at the Canadian Grand Prix due to the heavy rain during the race. However, now it seems that his wish came true a bit too soon. McLaren performed much
better than Red Bull in wet conditions as Button’s pace was quite evidently accelerating while Sebastian Vettel struggled to cope up with him.
Nevertheless, it was not the start McLaren was hoping for this weekend as Button scored the 15th fastest time during the first practice session while the second session was a little better for him as he secured the 5th place in the
timesheets.
Despite these results, Button claims that the track was quite slippery and the new rule change can be considered as a reason for that.
“The balance was OK this morning but this afternoon we struggled a little bit with the balance but it's not going to rain this weekend, it's going to be dry, and we'll see tomorrow where we are with our car,” he said.
The rest of the weekend is going to be quite interesting as the off-throttle blown diffuser ban’s impact might get more evident if the conditions get better on Saturday or Sunday.
