McLaren-Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton hoping for a comeback after summer break – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has said that he is hoping for a ‘comeback’ after the mid-season one month break in the ongoing 2011 Formula 1 season.
After this break, the Belgian Grand Prix will take place at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit on August 28, 2011.
“I'm looking forward to going away after what was a tricky race and getting my head back into gear. I need to have a think about what went wrong, a mistake on the track and other things, but at least the team got some good points,” said Hamilton.
The former world champion had an extremely disappointing race at the Hungaroring for the Hungarian Grand Prix as he was unable to take the win despite the fact that he led the race for more than 50 laps. The main reason for his failure was his pit stop choice.
“It was a shame we didn't get a one-two, but that was really my fault. Sorry for the team we didn’t. I'm disappointed with myself, but it's holiday now and I'm going to go and have some fun. I'm relaxed, relieved,” he said.
The McLaren driver had a very dominant weekend in Hungary as he topped the timesheets throughout the Friday practice sessions after which he qualified in 2nd place behind the Red Bull Racing team driver and championship leader Sebastian Vettel.
However, the team’s effort did not go to a waste as Jenson Button secured the race victory for them while Lewis Hamilton finished in 4th place behind Fernando Alonso who finished in 3rd place.
Hamilton is still in the championship race though as he is 88 points adrift of the reigning world champion and if Vettel retires out of a couple of races, then Hamilton, Fernando Alonso and Mark Webber will have a pretty good shot at the title.
However, anything can happen in Formula 1 and all Vettel wants right now is consistency. McLaren are looking very good now and it seems that the championship can change hands if the team keeps performing like this. RBR on the other hand are struggling to
cope up with the race pace of Ferrari and McLaren.
