McLaren-Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton pleased with new car upgrades – Formula 1 news
McLaren-Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has said that the upgrades his team applied to their new car are satisfying and he is pleased with the progress after scoring the second fastest time of the second free practice session in Australia on Friday.
Hamilton’s teammate Jenson Button scored the fastest time of the session and it seems that the untested upgrades have provided the team with the results it was hoping for in Australia. The 2008 Formula 1 world champion believes that the car has improved
drastically as compared to their testing in Barcelona during the final pre-season test session.
“The car feels like an improvement over winter testing, but I'm not reading too much into the others' performance. We just spent the day focusing on our own programme. The tyres are behaving very well; they don't feel like they're degrading, and they're
lasting well, too,” Hamilton said.
He added that the team is hoping to picking up some points this weekend at the Albert Park circuit in Melbourne as there is a major improvement in the grip levels of the car now.
The team was going through some major reliability problems during the pre-season testing but they were aware that their new car has a pretty good pace as compared to the rivals’ cars.
Other than that, he reaffirmed that he is committed to McLaren despite his statements that he does not want another “barren year” in 2011.
“That's simply a result of hard work: all the men and women back at the factory and at the track this weekend have done a fantastic job. It's difficult to gauge how different our car is, but there's more downforce, which is something we're always asking
for,” stated Hamilton.
He thanked and appreciated his team’s efforts on the new car and is now hoping for the best in the qualifying session of the season opening race in Australia this Sunday.
