McLaren-Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton says he wants to win 2011 championship – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has said that he wants to win the 2011 Formula 1 world championship.
Hamilton said winning only one world title will not be enough for him and he wants to win more in his career.
Hamilton added that he is still unable to beat Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel in the drivers’ championship this year, however he is now just concerned to make an impact in Formula 1.
He mentioned, “It would massively suck if I only won one world title - massively suck, It would feel like a waste of so many years. A lot of people say it's just about participating, but it's not. I want to win. I'm here to win. It's all I care about, it's
what I live for. Second feels less devastating but third, fourth is not good.”
The Brit beat Vettel in the 2011 Formula 1 season only once at the Chinese Grand Prix. After that, Hamilton has not been able to catch him during any race so far. He praised the current world champion’s performance in the ongoing season and admitted that
he was moving in the right direction for Red Bull. In addition, he said Vettel was the favourite to win the title after winning six races out of the eight so far in the 2011 season.
The 26-year-old driver added, “Of course every decision you make is important. You will always ask questions and look at all options and think: Is there anything better you can do? Who knows what regulations are going to do? But we have a very strong team,
and Mercedes Benz always have the best engines.”
The McLaren team driver said that Vettel won the world championship in 2010 at a younger age as compared to him and that was very impressive for Formula 1 teams and viewers. Hamilton is hopeful that he will catch Vettel at some point in the remainder of
the season.
Apart from that, the McLaren driver added that he is happy with his team, as he believes he is at a good point of his career with them.
