McLaren-Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton tries his hand at NASCAR – Formula 1 news
The 2008 Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton of McLaren-Mercedes team recently took part in an event which was dubbed as the “Car Swap.”
In the race, drivers from different Motorsports drive a different car from their regular sport. In that event, Hamilton drove a non-open wheel race car for the first time while Tony Stewart, a NASAR driver drove a Formula 1 car.
Both of the drivers prepared their respective sports’ car for the other driver during which they displayed some impressive tactics including burnouts by Lewis Hamilton.
The two drivers were quite curious about the event and were looking forward to taking part in this unique event as it was more like an opportunity to experience two of the most watched Motorsports in the world.
“I never in a million years thought I'd have the opportunity to drive a NASCAR. I don't know what to expect. I know in NASCAR, you blow engines. We very rarely do that nowadays,” said Hamilton.
Stewart on the other hand claimed that he drove a Formula 1 car once in his life before this under wet conditions which was almost five years ago.
“This ought to be a very interesting day, for sure. I got to run in the simulator yesterday quite a bit, but it didn't have a rain program,” said Stewart.
The two racing cars were pretty much of the same specifications and performed almost equally in terms of speed.
“I just feel like a kid. It's good to feel like a kid again. It's one of the coolest things I've done outside of racing Formula One. The competitive side of [racing] is so serious,” said the 2008 Formula 1 world champion.
The track was wet in the beginning but later on after around six laps, it dried making it even tougher for both of the drivers. The crowd enjoyed this unique display of Motorsports as both of the drivers claim that it was more like an experience of a lifetime
for them.
