McLaren amends its test schedule for the final pre-season test session
Team McLaren has recently revealed that they are going to sit out on the 10th of March during the final pre-season test session that is expected to take place in Barcelona. The team has decided to approach the final test session by taking a unique
route. The final pre-season test session is going to take place from the 8th of March to the 12th of March, that is 5 days, but each team is going to be allowed to run for just 4 days.
This means that each team has the right to decide its own schedule for the final pre-season test session.
The original schedule of the final test session was that the session would take place from the 8th to the 11th of March but the FIA decided to delay it for a day which means that the new dates announced for the final session were from
the 9th to the 12th of March.
Most of the teams were not happy with the new dates and decided to stick with the original schedule with the exception of Ferrari, Mercedes, Williams and Hispania Racing Team who wanted to run for the session according to the new schedule that is from the
9th- 12th of March.
As a result, the FIA decided to hold the session for five days, out of which the teams would now be allowed to run for four days according to their own likings.
McLaren is going to run from Tuesday to Wednesday before taking a break on Thursday. After that, the team will again run for 2 more days, that is from Friday to Saturday. This way, the team will gain more time to transport any required parts to Barcelona
since the team did not get a lot of time test its new MP4-26 at the previous test session that also took place at the same venue.
The team also revealed that Jenson Button would test on Tuesday and Friday, while Lewis Hamilton is going to test on Wednesday and Saturday.
Team McLaren is quite confident about their chances in the 2011 Formula 1 season as they believe that they have produced a very reliable and fast car but they need to unlock its full potential before the upcoming season begins.
The team has been unable to score good results during the first three pre-season test sessions but the team claims that they are trying to focus more on their testing rather than score some good times.
It would be interesting to see how comfortable both Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button are during their respective runs during the final pre-season test session as this is the last chance for McLaren to set everything straight before the 2011 Formula 1 season
begins.
