McLaren and Sebastian Vettel push Fernando Alonso for more victories – Formula 1 news
The championship leader, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari wants to land anywhere above the runner up in the championship Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing to retain the gap in his championship lead.
He said that if the victories in the upcoming races of the current season are shared among drivers then he can become the champion of the current 2012 season, without winning any race, but McLaren is giving impressive performances and they can end, the upcoming
three or four consecutive races, as winner, to eliminating his championship lead.
He said, “If [the other teams] keep sharing victories it's possible to win without any more wins. But at the moment we see McLaren very strong in Germany - nearly won the race there - won the race in Hungary, won the race in Spa, so they can win three or
four consecutive races and then your gap disappears.”
Furthermore, the Spanish driver said that they need to focus on the runner up in the championship and keep the gap maintained from him. He added that he should maintain his lead from Sebastian Vettel as he is at the second position in the championship, currently.
Additionally, he told that this is exactly what they did when Mark Webber was the runner up.
Moreover, he told that it will not be easy in terms of performance, during the Italian Grand Prix as they have not been so fast in the last few grands prix.
“It was eight tenths from pole position in Hungary and eight tenths also in Spa. So it's five days from that point, I don't think that we'll recover eight tenths by a magic button,” he added.
The Ferrari driver added that they need to give it their best shot to get the most out of their car, and he expects that it will give them chances to make it to the podium. Besides, he said that a victory will be even better therefore, they will try to do
their best.
At the Belgian Grand Prix the Spaniard faced an accident along with 4 other drivers. He was unable to finish the race. He currently attains 164 championship points against the runner up Vettel who attains 140 points.
Let’s see how he performs at the upcoming Italian GP.
