McLaren back up Jenson Button for 2012 Canadian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren managing director Jonathan Neale has backed up their driver, Jenson Button for 2012 Canadian Grand Prix which is to be held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal on June 10, after Briton’s difficult weekend in Monte Carlo.
Button took an incredible victory in the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia after setting off from 2nd grid position. Later he secured an impressive second podium finish in the third race at Shanghai International Circuit in China
after qualifying for 5th place in the grid.
However, he has only been able to attain 2 points in the last three races which he scored with his 9th place finish in the Spanish GP at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona.
Moreover, he struggled with the setup of MP4-27 in the Monaco GP at Circuit de Monaco in which he failed to make his way into third session of the qualifying and came 16th in the race.
Nevertheless, Neale said that although Button had a struggling time in Monaco but they are feeling certain that he will be competitive in Montreal.
“We've seen Jenson be very quick on Fridays, so he is doing a great job for us,” Neale said. “Together with the engineers we need to find that consistency and translate that from Friday into Saturday result. We're not that far away and I'm confident that
he can. I wouldn't read too much into Monaco as a race, it's rather a unique weekend. I'm sure Jenson will be on strong form this weekend.”
On the other hand, the 2009 world champion also said that he is positively looking forward to perform well in the next race.
Meanwhile, the team principal of McLaren, Martin Whitmarsh said that they are ready to provide their drivers everything which they may need in order to improve their performance in the season ahead.
Over and above, he said that they are trying their best to make the necessary developments and the essential preparations so as to enhance the pace of their car for the forthcoming races in order to fight for the championship title this year.
