McLaren backs Lewis Hamilton, wants him to stay beyond 2012 – Formula 1 news
McLaren managing director Jonathan Neale has come out in support of Lewis Hamilton saying the team is still 100 percent behind the Brit.
He added that McLaren are determined to give Hamilton the best possible car in the next 2012 season in order to lure him to stay beyond the 2012 contract with them. This news comes at a critical time, as Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali recently
said that Hamilton is interested to join after Felipe Massa’s contract matures.
Hamilton recently said, “I think you’re all trying to come out solutions as to why I’m not going well, but there is no solution, there is no answer to it.”
“I don’t know what the answer is, so I’d appreciate it if you didn’t just jump to conclusions because I don’t know what the answer is,” the Brit added.
The string of disappointing results, penalties and accidents this season have taken their toll on the Brit and he himself has admitted that he is not in the best place in his life at the moment.
Neale though has said that they have faith in Hamilton and are sure that he will be firing on all cylinders next year. He has been fantastic with the car given to him this year however, the car was just not good enough to get the job done, he said. He also
said that as a team it is their responsibility to provide him with a car good enough to compete and get the job done and that is what the team is looking to do.
Neale also mentioned how the car’s tyres were troubling Hamilton and that is what affected his show at the Japanese Grand Prix. He does not like to be at position 4 or 5 and that is not something he is used to and the team realises that.
It would be interesting to see how Lewis performs at the Singapore Grand Prix, considering all the controversies surrounding his form, issues with the car, his contract beyond 2012 and his run-ins with Felipe Massa.
