McLaren believes that chances are hanging by thread
Both the McLaren drivers, Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton still insist that they are very much in contention for the title battle. The team has had poor luck lately, but still it is a surprise to see the two drivers in the battle
and adamant to win.
The season is to see only three more races while the next one is to take place only in a day’s time. The newly built Korean International Circuit will hold the next round this Sunday. The race saw a lot of doubt and uncertainty
as the track’s construction work got delayed. However, the final green signal was given to the Korean race organisers only last Monday as FIA went to the track for the final inspection.
Now, as the Formula One caravan moves ahead for its seventeenth rendezvous the tug for the title has become more tight and thrilling than ever before. The top five drivers stand only 31 points adrift with only 75 more points to
fight for.
At this stage of the season, the two McLaren men though have a very thin ray of hope for the title, yet they are not willing to lose hope. The determined drivers as well as their team management vows to keep battling till they
see the chequered flag at the last race of the season, in Abu Dhabi.
The championship leader Mark Webber of Red Bull, after 16 rounds of the season has bagged 220 points while Fernando Alonso of Ferrari and the other Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel both stand at second and third places respectively.
The fourth and fifth slots of the charts have been occupied by the two McLaren men; Hamilton and Button as they score 192 and 189 points respectively.
Although the difference of 28 points from the charts’ topper does not seem impossible for Hamilton, yet it is not even a very easy target; not only because Webber is in great form and high spirit, but majorly because Red Bull and
Ferrari have cars far more competitive than the McLaren ones.
With only three more races to go, one of the McLaren drivers must see victory at the virgin track of Korea in order to bounce back in the battle. The last two races in Singapore, and Japan saw a lesser pace by McLaren as compared
to their rivals. However, as they move ahead for this round the team is hopeful to show much better pace. The last of the updates for the 2010 season will be run by the team at the Korean track.
While talking to the reporters about the aspirations and plans of the upcoming race Hamilton stated, "This weekend hopefully we will have a little bit more of a fighting chance against the Red Bulls and Ferrari and hopefully a
bit more fortunate as well. I think anything is possible and you can tell that us as a team and Ferrari are pushing very hard, I don't think the gap [to Red Bull] is that big, we have outqualified them in one race maybe, but I think we can close the gap okay."
On the other hand the title defender, Button said in the pre-race press conference of Thursday, "Every time we go to a race it seems this is the critical race, but it is obviously a lot more difficult for us to win the world championship
this year. But we've seen in past seasons that anything is possible, we've all had failures this year and issues, so it is definitely still possible after this event if it is mathematically possible.”
