McLaren chairman Ron Dennis comes clear about Lewis Hamilton – Formula 1 news
McLaren chairman Ron Dennis has denied that there are any issues between him and Lewis Hamilton as the driver leaves the team to join Mercedes AMG next year.
“Everybody feels that there's some issue between Lewis and I; there's absolutely no issue between us,” Dennis said. “Sometimes the circumstances in a relationship don't balance, don't match. We are a team that requires a lot out of a driver and if some other
team is able to make a more attractive proposition in any shape or form then a driver is going to move.”
Dennis added that the team itself has much more importance than any driver has. McLaren has produced many world champions over the years that include Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost. He insists that the team is still capable of producing future champions.
He says that to make a team successful, it is important that every member of the team is working for the right reasons; has the passion to make sacrifices and is determined to make efforts for bringing victories to the team. In McLaren, it is not only the
mental or physical condition of the team members that counts, but the amount of work being done on the car, he added.
Dennis said he was really happy for Hamilton and wished him all the best for his future career. Since the driver has been with this team from the start of his F1 career, the McLaren chairman said he was sure that they have nurtured him well over the years.
He went on to add that he has no hard feelings that he has been accused of, in fact he is very relaxed and not at all upset by the decision taken by Hamilton. He said he will obviously remember and cherish the good memories with him. He thinks it is part
of the sport and McLaren is used to making such sacrifices. Speaking of their focus at this time, Dennis said it was to win races in the next season with the new driver, Sergio Perez, and win more championships in the future.
Meanwhile, Hamilton had wished that he could win the team another race before he leaves. His wish was fulfilled as he thrillingly won the United States Grand Prix last weekend. He has admitted that he will now be leaving the team a satisfied man.
