McLaren claims to stand close to victory

The current situation of both the Drivers’ as well as the Constructors’ Championship remains very unpredictable. With every passing race the battle has become more severe as the top three teams of the season, Red Bull, McLaren and Ferrari all remain equally competitive and are pushing hard to get to the top.  At the same time the top five drivers remain at a difference of only twenty points from each other.
With such a situation McLaren believes to see equally close and unpredictable races for the rest of the year as well.  However, earlier this season their driver, Lewis Hamilton announced time and again that they have only the third fastest car of the season yet now they have proclaimed that they are coming with an improved pace which will help them have far better results.
The last race in Hungary was not a great one for McLaren as they found it very hard to chase Red Bull and Ferrari who left them behind. By the result of the last race the team was determined to have their car improved as the team's managing director Jonathan Neale vowed to come up with some great advancement for its MP4-25.
Now as they return from the summer break they claimed that they are very close to winning the championship till now. Neale stated during the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes phone-in that the team had not been able to perform as per their potential in Hungary which has increased their gap to Ferrari and Red Bull and caused them to get back in the tally which had made their battle tougher but still their chances are great.
He further added that the team is looking forward for the Belgian Grand Prix with much expectation as this is a very crucial race for them to stay firmly in the battle of the title. Moreover, he disclosed that the team is to come up with an upgraded package for Singapore later this year and if the race for the championship will remain equally tough the team is even planning to keep their development programme going on till the end of the season or at least till the time the season does not see any winner clearly.
However, Neale added that the recent changes to the rules and points distribution have made it tougher to decide the winner till the end.
Moreover, while explaining the new rules that have made the season tougher for them all he said, "The regulation changes in the last couples of years have meant that there are far fewer devices on the car, so everybody is working on floors, wings and details down the sides of the car."
He further expressed that the issue of cost reduction has also made things far more difficult for the teams that want to keep developing all through the season and more work is now required to be carried in the factories.
He concluded saying, “We have to preserve resources for next year and it means you can't spend your way out of trouble any more - that's a concern for all the teams in the championship."
Currently McLaren stands at second place in the Constructors’ Championship with a total of three hundred and four points while Red Bull leads the charts with three hundred and twelve points.
The two drivers of the English team, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button stand at second and fourth place with one hundred and fifty seven and one hundred and forty seven points respectively.
Well, three more days to go and the cars will stand head to head at the legendary track of Spa to unfold the thirteenth race of the season.
