McLaren confident about their chances at Malaysian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren are positive about their chances in the upcoming Malaysian Grand Prix that is scheduled to take place this weekend in Kuala Lumpur.
The British team had a very good testing session on Friday at the Sepang circuit as both of their drivers scored inside the top three at the second practice session.
Jenson Button scored the second fastest time of the session just 5 thousandths of a second slower than Mark Webber’s fastest time while his teammate Lewis Hamilton scored the 3rd fastest time of the session just 1.5 tenths of a second slower than
the fastest time.
“This afternoon's session was much better than this morning's. We found things a little difficult during P1; after Melbourne, we chose to head in a certain direction in order to resolve the issues we had in the first race, but the track is very different
here,” said Button.
Button’s teammate Hamilton was able to score the second fastest time of the first session of the day and it seems that McLaren and Red Bull Racing Team are going to dominate the Malaysian Grand Prix.
However, Button said that Malaysia is going to be different than the Australian GP because of the tyre grip.
“But, actually, everyone appears to have been struggling with rear grip today. The tyres feel very different from those we had in Melbourne. It's very tricky, but that's what we saw in winter testing, so we have good experience with that,” added the 2009
Formula 1 world champion.
Despite a very disappointing pre-season testing period, McLaren applied some upgrades to their new car before the Australian GP and fortunately, succeeded in pulling out some valuable pace out of their car.
Due to that, McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton finished the Australian Grand Prix in 2nd place behind Sebastian Vettel’s dominating RB7. Due to that, the team is hoping of doing well in the season’s second grand prix as well.
It seems that McLaren are going in the right direction and are now hoping for a decent qualifying result on Saturday for the Malaysian Grand Prix.
