McLaren confident for 2012 Formula 1 season ahead – Formula 1 news
McLaren managing director, Jonathan Neale has said that they are feeling confident for upcoming 2012 Formula 1 season even after facing issues in the last three races.
The Woking based team is currently standing at second place in the constructors’ championship with 108 points. Moreover, they are 38 points behind the defending champions, Red Bull Racing and 22 points ahead of Ferrari and Lotus.
Furthermore, their pair of drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button, has performed quite convincingly in the season so far.
The 2008 world champion, Hamilton has been one of the most consistent drivers in the season until now as he secured third podium finish in the first three races. However, he struggled with the poor pit stop strategy in two of the last three grands prix due
to which he lost some crucial time during the race and could not convert his competitive grid positions into a podium finish in either of the race.
On the other hand, the 2009 world champion, Button took an amazing victory in the season opener and secured an impressive second podium finish in the third race. Conversely, he could only score 2 points in the last three races as he faced difficulties with
the car’s setup and tyre management.
Nevertheless, Neale after admitting that they have committed some mistakes during the last several races said that they are positively looking forward to perform well in the forthcoming races. He also said that they are trying their best to make the necessary
advancements and the significant developments so as to improve the pace of their car for the season ahead to fight for the championship title.
“We've made some operational mistakes in Bahrain and Spain and obviously we need to eliminate those,” he said during a Vodafone phone-in. “In Formula One, you make the slightest slip and you pay a heavy price for it, but that's why we love the sport. You
have to be good at everything. The car definitely has the pace and the upgrades are coming through thick and fast. But it is very tight. We've got to be more consistent. But I'm confident the pace is there and we'll continue to push hard with our upgrade packages.”
