McLaren driver Hamilton says can beat Vettel if he manages front row qualification – Formula 1
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has said that he can beat Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel in the Monaco Grand Prix this weekend if he manages a front row qualifying position on Saturday, May 28, 2011.
The Woking-based outfit is hoping to fight with the Red Bull Racing team in the upcoming race weekend. Other than the defending team, McLaren have a fear that other strong teams would be more competitive in the Circuit de Monaco race, as they have showed
unexpected improvement in the recently held Spanish Grand Prix.
The Briton believes that if he manages a front row place on the grid in the qualifiers of the Monaco Grand Prix, then he would be pushed to have a challenging race with Red Bull and hopefully beat them.
The McLaren driver admitted that it is very difficult to beat Vettel in the race, because he has a perfect and fast car this season. He however added that if McLaren manage to get the best out of their car and impress at the qualifying session, then it will
be easier for him to beat the current leader in Monte Carlo.
Hamilton said, “I'd love to say yes and I definitely feel I've got it within me to qualify on pole, but it really just depends on getting the balance right and then seeing how quick they are.”
In recently held Barcelona Grand Prix, McLaren delivered a new exhaust blown diffuser to their car, MP4-26. Their drivers, Hamilton and Jenson Button were quite satisfied with the feature during in race.
Hamilton went on to mention, “They were the first ones to go with the blown diffuser and it's just like when the Brawns were the first to do the double diffuser they had the advantage for a long time. Red Bull were the first to do the blown diffuser and
everyone's been playing catch-up and we still are.”
After a very close fight with Red Bull Racing in the last laps of the Spanish GP, the Woking-based outfit is hoping to challenge the defending champions to the fullest. Let’s see to what an extent they manage to do it.
