McLaren driver Jenson Button admires team’s mechanics after FP2 in Montreal – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button has admired his team’s mechanics after the second free Friday practice session of 2012 Canadian Grand Prix held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal on June 10.
Button could only complete 12 laps during FP1 due to an oil leakage issue and came 10th on the timesheets. However, after resolving the problem he set the 9th best time of 1 minute and 15.812 seconds in FP2 and completed 14 laps.
Regardless of the difficulties faced by the British driver, he praised the efforts of the mechanics and expressed his gratitude towards them.
“Well, we certainly had a few issues today,” Button said. “We had an oil leak on my car in this morning's session, so the mechanics had to take the gearbox off then put it back on. They did a great job, but the delays stopped us from doing any high-fuel
running or any set-up work simply because we had to get out on the circuit and get some laps in. Still, as I say, I want to say a massive thanks to the guys for working flat-out to get everything fixed - they were fantastic.”
In addition, he said that he is looking forward to perform well in the qualifying of the Canadian GP so as to secure a competitive grid position for the race.
The 2009 world champion is presently standing at 7th place in the drivers’ championship with 45 points between Lotus pair of drivers, Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean.
He took an incredible victory in the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia after setting off from 2nd place in the grid.
Contrarily, he could not score even a single point in the second race. Nevertheless, he came back well in the third race and secured an impressive second podium finish after qualifying for 5th grid position.
Unfortunately, he could only score 2 points in the last three races as he struggled with the car’s setup and the issue of tyre management. Nonetheless, he is feeling contended with the progress the team has made for the approaching race and is targeting
to deliver his best in the upcoming season.
