McLaren driver Jenson Button aiming for victory at the 2011 Hungarian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button has said that he is aiming for the win at this weekend’s 2011 Hungarian Grand Prix after scoring the 3rd place in the timesheets during the 2nd Friday free practice session.
“(It was) a trouble-free day, which is nice. We managed a lot of good runs and did a lot of useful set-up work, so it was a good day. I'm very happy with the direction we've taken with the car. We're strong in the first and last sectors. I'm quickest in
the first sector and Lewis is fastest in the last,” he said.
His teammate Lewis Hamilton scored the fastest lap time of the session though and it seems that McLaren are pretty fast at the Hungaroring. Fernando Alonso divided the two McLaren drivers as he finished in 2nd place in the timesheets while the
two Red Bull Racing team drivers struggled to perform and ended up behind the top 3 drivers.
“With a few more set-up tweaks, I think we can be competitive. I hope to challenge for victory, but I'm not the only driver thinking that. Ferrari and Red Bull will also be looking to have good weekends, but that's great for Formula 1,” said Button.
Mark Webber secured the 4th place while the championship leader finished in 5th place in the timesheets which is quite disappointing for RBR.
This is the closest McLaren and Ferrari have been to RBR in terms of pace as a result of which, it is believed that the qualifying session of the Hungarian Grand Prix is going to be very unpredictable and RBR might be defeated at qualifying for the first
time now.
Since Jenson Button is pretty much out of the championship run, he should support his teammate more rather than scoring more points for himself. The main goal for both of the McLaren drivers should be to capture at least one of the titles by the end of the
season and in order to do that, they must work together as a team.
