McLaren driver Jenson Button believes he can fight for victory in Monaco Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button has said that he can beat the Red Bull Racing drivers in the upcoming Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday, May 29, 2011.
The British driver is moving in the right direction, as he successfully completed the first five races of the ongoing 2011 Formula 1 season so far. After a positive start in the Monaco Grand Prix, he is confident that the race victory is achievable for him.
He discussed the current race weekend and said, “Anything can happen around here. The race is 78 laps long. I really haven't got a clue what strategy we will take, and everyone will be in the same position - is it one, is it two, is it three stops? Which
tyres are you going to put on when? It is going to be an exciting race.”
The 31-year-old driver admitted that he feels very comfortable with his team and the car.
He went on to add, “I think for both of us we have really been trying to put more front end into the car. I have struggled to get enough front ends in the car for the low-speed corners, but it got better and better in qualifying. I have felt good in the
car and I have felt confident in the car, which is what you need on a circuit like this.”
In the qualifying round of the Monte Carlo race weekend, defending champion Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing secured yet another pole for the race. However, Button is confident he will win the race ahead of Vettel.
On the other hand, Button’s teammate Lewis Hamilton was in ninth place for the upcoming Monaco GP. Sauber driver Sergio Perez’s accident during the closing laps of Q3 hampered Hamilton’s pace for his best finish.
Button is really determined for his race victory in Monte Carlo. Let’s see how he manages to do that this weekend.
