McLaren driver Jenson Button confident of good show ahead of 2011 Korean GP – Formula 1 news
Jenson Button of McLaren Mercedes team, who won the recently held Japanese Grand Prix, looks quite confident at the moment about his team’s prospects at the upcoming Korean Grand Prix.
The Brit said that with Sebastian Vettel’s title win at Suzuka, the hunt for this season’s championship has come to an end. The constructors’ championship is still open to contest, and teams like Red Bull and Ferrari are presently in a very good shape.
Looking back at his wondrous feat in Japan last weekend, he said that it was a really emotional experience for him and he looks to carry forward his success to the Korean race.
His performance at the Korea International Circuit in 20101 was not very impressive but the 31-year-old Brit is pretty optimistic that this time around with a competitive car and much better pace, chances of a win are good.
Button, who left spectators bedazzled with his performance at the recently held Japanese Grand Prix, is currently in the second place on the drivers’ standings with 210 points, with a 8-point lead over Fernando Alonso of Ferrari.
He feels that the Korean circuit will suit the McLaren car.
He is optimistic that he will able to repeat his victory of last weekend at Yeongam.
He said, “It’s an interesting circuit, there’s a good range of corners, Turn 11 is pretty unique, it’s a double apex, heavily cambered left hander, and the back end of the track is quite interesting, too, there’s only really one line through that sequence
of bends, and, if you get one wrong, you can risk losing out through the whole sequence. I’m quite confident that we should be able to hook the car up quite well through that sequence this year.”
Pirelli will be providing a set of soft and super-soft tyres to the teams keeping in view the layout of the Korea International Circuit at Yeongam. The circuit comprises of several low-speed and tricky corners, along with some really fast turns which demand
a really versatile combination of tyre and car settings.
The race starts this weekend, with the first free practice session on Friday, October 14, 2011. The race follows on Sunday, October 16, 2011.
