McLaren driver Jenson Button disappointed after Monaco Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button has said that he is somewhat disappointed with his Monaco Grand Prix finish as he was expecting a race victory for himself.
Button had a trouble-free race on Sunday, May 29, 2011 in Monte Carlo, where he finished his run in the third spot. He picked up 15 points for the team on the Pirelli supersoft tyres.
He was happy with his third podium finish in the season. The British driver seems to be struggling for this year’s title from the start of the season. In the recently held Monaco Grand Prix, he took a positive start and completed the practice sessions and
qualifying rounds at the racetrack strongly.
The 31-year-old driver took part in the Monte Carlo race with hopes of winning the race title, but the safety car after Vitaly Petrov’s crash hampered his pace. Due to that, he could not manage to win the race.
He admitted that his three-stop strategy was helpful for him to get his third podium finish.
Button said, “I don't know if you can call it unlucky. We went for the strategy we did. On lap 16 we thought it was the right strategy to be pulling such a lead. It was great and the car felt good and I thought it would continue that way.”
He went on to mention, “It was good fun watching because when you are the third car it is good fun as the car in second has DRS. I was waiting for a move. It was either going to come off or not. Not a bad result but we obviously hoped for a lot more.”
The McLaren driver told the reporters that he really enjoyed his time in his car at the Monte Carlo street track. After a positive finish in Monaco, he will be hoping to win some races of the remainder of the 2011 Formula 1 season in order to improve his
championship chances.
