McLaren driver Jenson Button focuses on winning races – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button has said that he is currently focussing to win races in the 2012 Formula 1 season ahead.
Button said that if he will get a chance to claim victory in any race, he will surely go for it. However, he expressed that he is ready to support his teammate, Lewis Hamilton in the championship fight this year.
“If I am leading a race, then I want to win that race,” he said. “That's what drivers do. We don't have No1 and a No2 driver here. I will not be asked to do anything but if there comes time in this Championship when I can't win, then I will obviously help my team-mate.”
The British driver scored an amazing win in the season opener and later claimed an inspiring second podium finish in the third race. Conversely, he kept on struggling with finding his true potential in most of the grands prix in the first half of the season due to limited downforce and poor tyre management.
Although, he strike back well in the German GP and secured striking second podium finish after taking a start from 6th grid position. Nonetheless, he said that he is not looking forward to win the championship battle as he is far behind from the current leader in the drivers’ standings, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari.
“But there is a long way to go and a long time before I feel I am in that position. I am not thinking about the Championship, because it is a long way away. Fernando will be. He is the only one,” he added.
In addition, he said that he is targeting to win as much race as he can in the season ahead. Furthermore, he said that he is confidently aiming to perform well in the forthcoming races.
Presently, he is at 7th place in the drivers’ championship with 76 points along with Romain Grosjean of Lotus. Besides, he is ahead of Sergio Perez of Sauber and is behind Nico Rosberg of Mercedes.
Let’s see how the 2009 world champion shows up in the upcoming races after the summer break.
