McLaren driver Jenson Button hoping for a rainy British Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button has said that he is hoping for a rainy British Grand Prix because of the fact that he won his only race of the 2011 Formula 1 season in Canada due to heavy downpour.
“Sorry guys but if it rains it is not so good for fans sitting out in it, but for us in terms of our pace in the wet and in terms of a result, wet weather could be good,” Button told the media.
It seems that Red Bull Racing do not fare well in rain as McLaren were much better at the Canadian Grand Prix where it rained and one has to admit that it was the reason why Button secured his win.
“It definitely does mix it up a bit. Our car seems to work well in the wet. We've proved that on a couple of occasions and if you look at the pace in Valencia you would say we were nowhere near close enough to the Red Bulls,” said the former world champion.
Red Bull Racing have been dominating the 2011 Formula 1 season with a perfect pole position score and 6 race wins from 8 races. The team secured these results in dry conditions and since the team is unbeatable in those conditions, it seems that rain can
help McLaren and Ferrari to some extent.
Nevertheless, the off-throttle Blown Diffusers will be banned starting from the British Grand Prix as a result of which Red Bull Racing Team will lose some pace. It is expected that the gap between them and McLaren and Ferrari will decrease noticeably following
the ban.
“I hope we have made some good improvements. It is going to be tough to beat the Red Bulls,” said Button.
Other than that, it was revealed recently that McLaren are going to apply some upgrades to their car at the British Grand Prix after which their respective performance will improve massively. The team believes that after these improvements, they will be
able to cope up with Red Bull’s pace.
