McLaren driver Jenson Button hoping for dry conditions at 2011 Belgian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button has recently stated that he is hoping for dry conditions later on this weekend after going through an almost completely wet Friday practice day for the Belgian Grand Prix at the Spa-Francorchamps.
“When it dries fast it is fine but if it's wet for a whole session and raining for a whole session it might be a different story. For us on a drying circuit it was great conditions because you wear down the inter as the circuit dries out so it was perfect
conditions and the car is working well,” he said.
The teams were unable to test their respective cars to the limit because of the varying track conditions and since the weather conditions for the rest of the weekend are quite unpredictable, Button is hoping for dry weather at least during the race.
“If it's raining the whole time in the race it's very difficult to know what to do with tyres. We've obviously used a set of inters today which are well worn and most people have a quite well worn set. But there are 44 laps to do on Sunday and if it's wet
it's going to be tricky,” added the 2009 Formula 1 world champion.
Button believes that the qualifying session is going to be held under wet conditions but the race might not have the same conditions throughout its whole period and that would be better for the teams as they are already running short on intermediate tyres
for the weekend. If it rains throughout the race, then the teams might go through a lot of trouble in saving their tyres.
However, McLaren need to win this race as well in order to stay in the 2011 world championship as the team is over a hundred points behind Red Bull Racing in terms of constructors’ standings.
On the other hand, Button and his teammate Lewis Hamilton are still competing for the drivers’ title as well as a result of which they must secure some good consistent performances for the remainder of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
