McLaren driver Jenson Button hoping for new upgrades to the MP4-26 – Formula 1 news
The former Formula 1 world champion Jenson Button has said that he is hoping for some new upgrades to the MP4-26.
Button also claims that he is pushing McLaren to upgrade the car in order to compete alongside Red Bull Racing more actively.
The European Grand Prix was a bad experience for Button as he finished in 6th place while his teammate Lewis Hamilton scored the 4th position behind Red Bull’s Mark Webber. Jenson’s 6th place was quite remarkable though as
he went through a Kinetic Energy Recovery System failure which hampered his performance drastically.
“We have to push and hope we get a lot of improvements for the next race. So I'll be going around tomorrow and seeing what we have. I know some of the things we have, and some of the things we have for the race after (in Germany). But hopefully we can try
and get them for Silverstone,” said Button.
The McLaren driver secured his first win of the season at the Canadian Grand Prix but one has to admit that the race was more mouldable due to the conditions rather than the driving skills or the cars of each respective team.
Nevertheless, the British driver wants the team to try its best to improve the car’s performance before the team’s home race in Britain scheduled to take place on July 10, 2011.
“It's going to be a weird race for everyone given the change in the regulations with the blown diffuser. We have to be wary of that because there will be quite a big difference for all of us. It's about being ready when you arrive there, understanding which
direction you need to take,” he added.
There has been some mixed reaction regarding the championship run after the European Grand Prix as many believe that the championship is pretty much over with Sebastian Vettel dominating each venue so far. However, some believe that after the Blown Diffuser
ban, McLaren and Ferrari might just bounce back in the second half of the season.
