McLaren driver Jenson Button hoping to maintain his momentum at Spa-Francorchamps – Formula 1
McLaren’s Jenson Button has recently stated that he is hoping to maintain his momentum and preferably finish ahead of the Red Bull Racing team in order to help his team direct its championship up in a much better direction.
“It felt great to go into the summer break off the back of the win in Hungary. That was a race I think we could just as well have won in the dry as in the damp, which will be worth bearing in mind in Spa, as it’ll probably be wet and dry, and everything
in between, at some point during the weekend,” he said.
Other than that, he stated that he loves driving at the Spa-Francorchamps where the upcoming Belgian Grand Prix is expected to take place this coming weekend and added that the track is truly spectacular.
“I love racing at Spa, but, unfortunately haven’t done too much of it recently as I’ve been taken out of the last two Belgian Grands Prix through no fault of my own. This year, I’ll be hoping for a little more luck!” he added.
Button won the Hungarian Grand Prix which was his second race win of the 2011 Formula 1 season but still he has not been able to make his mark in the 2011 drivers’ championship as he is around a 100 points short of the championship leader Sebastian Vettel.
Either way, it is quite clear now that McLaren and Ferrari are very quick and they have the ability of defeating Red Bull Racing team at any kind of circuit in all sorts of conditions.
RBR have been struggling to perform since the past couple of races and as a result, Vettel has been getting quite frustrated and pressurised. He is well aware if things keep going this way for his team, he might lose his lead.
However, he is in a comfortable position as the only way McLaren or Ferrari can chase them up is if RBR get a bit inconsistent and become unreliable in the final couple of races. However, this seems quite uncertain as RBR are the most reliable team on the
grid in 2011 as they have not retired out of a single race this season.
