McLaren driver Jenson Button hoping to outthink Red Bull Racing team at Monaco Grand Prix
The 2009 Formula 1 world champion Jenson Button has said that he is hoping to outthink Red Bull Racing team at the upcoming Monaco Grand Prix in order to take the advantage and hopefully beat them.
Red Bull have been dominating in the 2011 season with 4 wins and a perfect pole position score as the team’s pace is quite evidently much faster as compared to its rivals. Red Bull were around a second faster than the rest of the teams during the qualifying
session but their pace during the race was a completely different story as Lewis Hamilton finished just 0.6 seconds behind the reigning world champion in Barcelona.
Nevertheless, Sebastian Vettel is leading the championship comfortably 41 points ahead of his closest rival Lewis Hamilton of McLaren. However, Jenson Button is hoping to break this dominating streak by understanding the tyres better than the rest of the
drivers.
“Last year the Red Bulls were quick there and they are going to be quick again. With two experienced drivers around the circuit they are going to be tough to beat, but we will do what we can,” he told the media.
Other than that, it is believed that Pirelli is going to introduce the super-soft tyres at the upcoming race. Due to that, coming up with an efficient strategy is going to be quite difficult for the teams.
Since Monte Carlo is the tightest circuit of the Formula 1 calendar, the overtaking rate is quite low as a result of which the qualifying session is going to be quite important as well.
“We have a chance to out-drive them and out-think them. Monaco is going to be a proper thinking race … looking after tyres … a tricky one. Thursday and Saturday will be so important, gaining information and learning how they work. Sunday is going to be a
long afternoon on the super-soft tyre,” said Button.
Since the team’s recent upgrades proved to be a success for McLaren during the race, the team is now quite confident but they are hoping to improve even more at the upcoming Monaco Grand Prix by outthinking Red Bull Racing.
