McLaren driver Jenson Button insists they must improve their car – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button has said that they must make improvements in their car MP4-27 after an uncompetitive performance in 2012 British Grand Prix held at Silverstone Circuit.
Button struggled during the qualifying of the last race and could not even make his way into Q2. Afterwards, he secured 10th place finish and seemed contended with the result. However, he asserted that they earnestly need to make the considerable
improvements in the car so as to enhance their pace in the forthcoming races to fight for the championship title this year.
In addition, he said that the competition is very tough in the current season and no contender can be underestimated as all have made some sound progress with their cars.
“I'm pleased to get a point today, so it wasn't great,” Button said. “I had fun out there. Lots of fun overtaking moves, especially with Nico but struggled at the end to get past guys in front. I think our pace was OK but I just don't think we're quite there
on pace. It's not just Red Bull's that are stronger than us, it's Ferraris, it's Lotuses, I even think Williams and Saubers. So it's tough and it's very, very competitive out there and when you're a little bit off the pace like we are you're right down in
points.”
At present, the British driver is standing at 8th place in the drivers’ championship with 50 points. Moreover, he is ahead of Sergio Perez of Sauber and behind Romain Grosjean of Lotus.
On the other hand, his teammate, Lewis Hamilton secured 8th place finish in the British GP and is currently at 4th position in the drivers’ rankings with 92 points. Additionally, he is ahead of Kimi Raikkonen and behind the defending
champion, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing.
Besides, the 2009 world champion said that he is not feeling upset after the preceding race and they are looking forward to come up stronger in the approaching races.
Over and above, he expressed his immense gratitude towards his home fans for all their love and support while he said that he will try to deliver his best in the season ahead.
