McLaren driver Jenson Button is keeping his hopes alive for the championship title – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button still believes that he can win the 2012 Formula 1 World Championship regardless of facing difficulties in the last few races.
Button is presently standing at 8th place in the drivers’ rankings with 49 points. Moreover, he is 4 points behind Romain Grosjean of Lotus and is 10 points ahead of Sergio Perez of Sauber-Ferrari.
The British driver scored an impressive win in the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia after taking a start from second grid position. Furthermore, he secured a striking second podium finish in the third race at Shanghai International
Circuit in China after setting off from fifth place in the grid.
Although, he has been seen struggling with finding his true pace in the preceding few grands prix. However, his hopes are high and he thinks that he is still in the championship fight as he is only 62 points behind the leading driver, Fernando Alonso of
Ferrari.
Besides, he said that he is aiming to come strong in the upcoming races and will try his best to reduce the gap to the front.
“It is 60 points, which is quite a few points, but we've seen how quickly it can turn around. No, it's definitely not over. If there was one person streaking away in the lead like Seb [last year] then it would be quite a big chunk to get back, but if we
win this race and the Ferraris are not on the pace then it could be a lot of points in the bag,” said Button.
“But even without the bits on the car I think we should have a pretty good car round here,” he added.
The current season has been full of surprises as the first seven races have been won by seven different drivers. Additionally, the Spaniard, Alonso is the only driver in the season until now who has claimed victory in two races.
Over and above, it is very hard to predict anything about the races ahead because of the unpredictable nature of the season. Nevertheless, the championship is still open and each and every contender is trying to make his mark stronger in this year’s title
fight.
